ASU, UA business programs rank in Top 30 on national list

Two university undergraduate business programs in Arizona received top-30 rankings in U.S. News & World Report's annual list of the nation's leading business schools.

The University of Arizona's Eller College of Management was named No. 21 and the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University was No. 29 on the annual list.

Eller College's entrepreneurship and management information systems programs were each ranked No. 5 in their areas of specialty.

"The University of Arizona is proud to offer excellent degree programs at all levels of student education. With our 100 percent Student Engagement initiative, UA students are among some of the world's best-prepared graduates entering the workforce," UA President Ann Weaver Hart said on the school's website.

In addition to earning a No. 29 ranking overall on a list headed by No. 1 University of Pennsylvania, the W.P. Carey School was also ranked No. 3 in supply-chain management, No. 30 in accounting, No. 19 in entrepreneurship, No. 20 in management, No. 15 in management information systems and No. 23 in marketing.

It is the ninth time in 10 years that the W.P. Carey School has made the top 30, according to a press release.

"We're proud to strive for and achieve excellence year after year," said Amy Hillman, the school's dean. "This ranking is determined by deans and senior faculty members at peer schools, who understand what it takes to create and maintain a fantastic business program."

UA's undergraduate Eller College tied at No. 21 with Boston College, Michigan State University, Pennsylvania State University-University Park, Purdue University-West Lafayette, the University of Georgia, University of Maryland-College Park and the University of Washington.

ASU's undergraduate W.P. Carey School tied at No. 29 with Babson College, Georgia Institute of Technology, Texas A&M University-College Station and the University of Florida.

W.P. Carey School's undergraduate tuition is $9,811 in-state, $23,312 out-of-state. Enrollment is nearly 49,000.

Tuition at Eller College is $10,581 a year in-state and $28,379 out-of-state. Total enrollment is nearly 46,000.

U.S. News & World Report ranks colleges and universities based on variables including graduation and retention rates, assessment by peers and counselors, faculty resources (such as class sizes, benefits and salaries), student selectivity, financial resources for students, alumni giving and graduation-rate performance, which is the difference between actual and predicted graduation rates, according to the UA website.
