A man who suffered a medical emergency during the Mirror Lake jump at Ohio State early Wednesday morning has died from his injuries.

Ohio State University President Michael Drake identified him as Austin Singletary, a 3rd year student at OSU, from Dayton. In his statement, he said "I know that the thoughts and prayers of all of us are with his family and loved ones. During this difficult time, counseling services will be made available throughout the holiday weekend for those who seek support."

Singletary was in cardiac arrest when rescuers pulled him from the water around 12:20 AM, a police dispatcher said.

Paramedics took him to OSU Wexner Medical Center, where he was in critical condition, according to Vernon Baisden, the public safety director for Ohio State.

"Our immediate concern remains with this young man and his loved ones," Baisden said. "It is very important for us to identify this young man."

Anyone with information is asked to call Ohio State Police at (614) 292-2121.

Temperatures were in the low 30s as hundreds, if not thousands, of students participated in the annual Beat Michigan Week tradition, which is not a university sanctioned event.

In recent years, the university has added a chain-link fence around the lake and controlled entrances and exits.

In order to jump, students were required to show a Buck ID and obtain a wristband.

ABC 6 / FOX 28 Will update this developing story with additional information as it becomes available.
