Kelly Ripa Hilariously Reveals How Daughter Lola Consuelos Tweaked Her Prom Dress ‘Behind Our Back’

Teenagers… what are you gonna do, right? They’ve got a mind of their own, and one of Hollywood’s A-list moms has a hilarious anecdote to prove it. Kelly Ripa‘s daughter Lola Consuelos altered her prom dress in secret — after Ripa and husband Mark Consuelos had the stunning emerald green gown made for their 18-year-old girl. And, well, let’s just say Lola’s tailoring tweak took her famous mom and dad by surprise.

Chatting with Jerry O’Connell on the premiere episode of the Jerry O’ show, Ripa joked about her daughter’s reticence to even take a photo with her mom. “It took me 20 hours to get that photo,” Ripa told O’Connell, who asked what Lola was dressed for in the photo shown onscreen. “That’s prom,” Ripa said, adding, “That’s the prom dress we had made and she had altered behind our back.”

Per People, Lola worked with NYC-based tailor Raza Wijdan to custom design her emerald gown. While the original (and apparently parent-approved) design already featured a V-neck and high leg slit, Lola clearly thought the dress needed something more. Or should we say less? Without telling her parents, Lola made a tweak involving the gown’s neckline. “So that’s why the girls are fully on display. Everybody came down the stairs together. And I just mean Lola,” Ripa quipped.

Ripa appears to have taken the sneaky seamstress-ing in stride, admitting of her daughter, “She’s a smart girl. She’s a nice girl.”

However, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t still worry about Lola. When O’Connell brought up the controversial teen HBO series Euphoria, Ripa admitted that she asked Lola about it. “She loves Euphoria, and her and all of her girlfriends watch it together. So, I was like, ‘Is that what it’s really like?’ And she goes, ‘Um, I don’t really think so. Not that much.’ And I was like, ‘Is it anything like Euphoria?'” Cue panic in Ripa’s eyes as she and O’Connell attempt to describe how rampant drugs and reckless sex are in the series.

But as O’Connell reminded Ripa, she’s got a pretty good handle on this whole parenting thing. He even credited Ripa with giving him some of his favorite parenting advice to date: don’t cave in too soon to your kids’ guilt-laden pleas for a smartphone. “Everybody’s self-worth is wrapped up in the ‘Gram and Snapchat and all these other apps,” Ripa said, recounting her words of wisdom to O’Connell. “You just have to monitor it, and you just have to hold off, I’d say, as long as possible.”
