During the Kings Training Camp in San Diego this past week, DeMarcus Cousins was asked if the 2015-16 NBA MVP was a reachable goal for him.
“Reachable, man?” Cousins responded. “It’s mine to grab.”
Although Boogie has never been short on confidence, Bleacher Report’s Senior NBA Writer Kevin Ding explored the answer further in a recent post.
“In the five previous NBA seasons, Cousins has never gotten even a single fifth-place vote for MVP,” wrote Ding. “But let it be known that this is not the same young big man, and there are already actions to back up the MVP-hype words of the only player in basketball who outright frightens opponents.”
During Steph Curry’s MVP season in 2014-15, his stats were highly comparable to that of the Kings big man. What was lacking in Sactown was the wins, which Cousins knows need to be greatly improved.
“It’s going to take a full team effort,” said Cousins. “I’ll try to play at a high level and bring my team along with me.”
New teammate Rajon Rondo also spoke highly of No. 15, stating, “not to put any pressure on him, but I expect nothing less but MVP.”
It would take a gigantic year from not only DeMarcus but also the Kings to put him in the running but according to Kevin Ding “his production is going to be massive, and if the revamped Kings rise to a playoff berth in the deep Western Conference, it will be an inspirational maturation.”
