Marlink has added new satellites and beams capability to its Sealink VSAT network to provide improved internet connectivity to the adventure cruising and superyacht markets.

By adding new capabilities, Marlink aims to offer flexible, reliable, and high-speed internet connectivity to both the crew and guests on-board cruise ships and superyachts.

Marlink is also expected to achieve its strategy to provide a multi-layered network of high-power overlapping beams, as well as deliver frequency redundancy in the world’s congested and remote areas to ensure access to high-quality voice and data services.

Marlink Maritime president Tore Morten Olsen said: “As demand for bandwidth increases in all maritime verticals, our combination of satellites, beams and overall orbital spread enables us to maximise the availability, speed, flexibility and agility of the connectivity services we provide, whilst ensuring high throughput even thousands of miles from the equator.”

The newly added capabilities, which will cover the Northwest Passage, the Mediterranean, and the Caribbean region, are the result of a new satellite included to the Marlink VSAT network.

“Satellites, beams and overall orbital spread enables us to maximise the availability, speed, flexibility and agility of the connectivity services.”

They are set to enhance Marlink’s existing Ku-band coverage in the Northwest Passage, starting from the east coast of Canada to the western tip of Alaska, and increase the potential for digital transformation in the adventure cruise and superyacht industries.

Olsen added: “With sea ice receding due to climate change, larger vessels are now able to further explore the Northwest Passage, which is generating significant extra demand for connectivity. Choosing a provider with more sources of high throughput services enabled by redundant and overlapping satellite coverage ensures quality of service, resulting in more uptime even in the most remote regions.”

Marlink’s new capability also includes widebeam high-throughput satellite coverage to overlap the company’s current capacity in the traditional cruise and yachting markets, covering the entire Mediterranean Sea.

The company has also added new capacities and converge for seasonal peak demands and for the most popular Caribbean yachting destinations, respectively.
