preview for 2017 Global Running Day

If you forgot to put it on the calendar, June 7 is Global Running Day. Over two million runners from across the globe, in 164 countries, have pledged to get up, get out, and go for a run. Don’t worry if you haven’t made plans yet. We’ve put together a list of activities from across the country, so you can join in wherever you are.

The Runner’s World staff will be on-the-ground at various events in NYC and Philly. We will also be participating in a mile-long lunch run at headquarters in Emmaus, PA, and we’d love for you to join if you live nearby. You are also invited to join us for a free 5K in the Lehigh Parkway. We have signs for your desk or office door that let folks know where you are.

SHOP: Our “I Love Running” T-shirts are in hot demand, so get yours today to celebrate running throughout the year.

This is a great day to invite a nonrunner to take up the sport. New York Road Runners will hold events for people of all ages and abilities across the five boroughs, including a world-record challenge on a treadmill and hourly group runs leaving from the NYRR RUNCENTER.

In celebration of Global Running Day today, Brooks Running is making childhood dreams come true by inviting all runners to become a Brooks endorsed athlete with the Brooks Big Endorsement. Brooks-endorsed athletes will receive a $1 check and access to content from Brooks experts about training, nutrition, and a ton of other running related topics.

If you're pressed for time and can only squeeze in a mile or two, there are some virtual options as well.

Strava launched The Strava Mile, a campaign to encourage everyone to run their fastest mile. Log your time for a chance to win a pair of running shoes for yourself and up to 10 of your Strava followers.

Asics is challenging you to run a total of 60 minutes anytime between May 30th and June 6th. By doing so, ASICS will donate $1 per person to the Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) organization.

Under Armour used MapMyRun to figure out the most popular running routes in the U.S. They also launched a site where you can create a custom meme that says, "Skip today. Run Instead."

Any run counts, but if a solo run isn’t your idea of a celebration, then look no further! We’ve got your plans covered from race registration specials to fun runs across the nation. Scroll down to your area or state to find out what’s going on.

Nationwide Group Runs

The Fleet Feet Sports running shoe chain store is celebrating with group runs at stores in 40 locations nationwide. The Big Run will do something the store has never done before: hold a nationally coordinated 5K race in these different locations all on the same day. The races will have raffles, prizes, and refreshments after. Find your local store for event schedules.

JackRabbit running stores will be hosting various events in their locations all over the country. They'll also have deals on shoes like Nike, Saucony, Brooks, and Asics.
