A fire destroyed a tour bus on Interstate 80 near the community of Rainbow in Placer County Saturday morning, according to Caltrans.

The bus, which was traveling from the Bay Area and headed eastbound, caught fire around 9 a.m., Caltrans spokesperson Deanna Shoopman said.

All 40 people on board the bus, including the driver, were able to evacuate before it burned to the ground, according to Shoopman. No injuries were reported.

Shoopman said that all the passengers were transported to a Caltrans maintenance yard in Kingvale to wait for another bus to pick them up.

The fire caused traffic to back up for some time, but the roadway has since been cleared, according to Caltrans.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No further information on the tour bus or the company that owns it was immediately available.
