To honor the memory of the thousands of lives lost on 9/11, Bakersfield High School will host a ceremony on Friday. The ceremony will be open to the public.

The remembrance ceremony marks the the anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, which happened 15 years ago this Sunday.

"Even though September 11 falls on a Sunday this year, we felt that this ceremony is important for our new 9th grade students," BHS principal David Reese said in a press release Tuesday.

“I will never forget when all the football games were cancelled that Friday after 9/11 in 2001," Reese continued. "We held a candle light ceremony that filled Griffith Stadium. We have had a remembrance every year since.”

The ceremony will begin at 7:40 a.m. on Friday with an invitation to classes to join and watch the tribute.

At 7:58 a.m., Color Guard will post the flag at half-staff as Principal Reese begins the tribute and wreath-laying.

Students will be asked to stand in a moment of silence.

ROTC students will march for the rest of the day akin to the march at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C.
