Kings Attend Special Prom Night

The scene was similar to any other prom you’d see at a local high school - smiling faces scattered around a dance floor with music pumping from the DJ’s speakers, a photo booth and refreshments. However, this prom was extra special, partially thanks to two attendees.

Kaiser Permanente hosted its second annual Pediatric Prom Night earlier this month for teenage patients who had missed or were going to miss their own prom due to their ongoing battles with cancer. Since these teens were unable to go to their dances, Kaiser Permanente figured the next best thing would be to bring the dance to them.

Ben McLemore and Willie Cauley-Stein helped make the night even more special by entering arm in arm with some of those in attendance, as well as taking some fun photos in the photo booth, playing games and of course, showing off some moves on the dance floor.

“Today, I finally lost my first battle in dancing to a young lady,” said McLemore. “She did a great job. She’s very talented and I thought I had her, but obviously I was not prepared and ready for what she had coming tonight.”

The Kings guard also touched on his thoughts on the night as a whole.

“Overall it was a great experience. I definitely had a great time,” McLemore continued. “I’m blessed to have an opportunity to be around these kids and make their day.”
