Coverage FAQs

Answers to common questions about Travel Insurance Coverage.

Just another expense, right? Wrong. A travel insurance plan can cover you for unexpected costs incurred before or during your trip so that expenses can be less likely to come out of your own pocket. A travel insurance plan from Travel Guard helps to protect your trip investment with coverages like trip cancellation and interruption, medical expense and evacuation, lost or delayed baggage and more.

As a bonus - most travel insurance plans also include 24/7 emergency assistance services to re-book flights and hotels on your behalf and act as a personal travel assistant while you are away from home.

You bet! We offer an assortment of travel insurance plans for a variety of travel needs.

Please be careful when using frequent flyer miles to calculate your trip cost. Travel insurance typically covers the cash value of non-refundable travel expenses. In other words, money you can’t get back from your airline or other travel provider. Frequent flyer miles are not covered as it’s difficult to determine their cash value.

Travelers on a single policy must reside in the same state. If your non-family member lives in the same state as you, then yes, you can include them. Otherwise please purchase a separate plan to ensure coverage.

To boost travelers' confidence when traveling, Travel Guard provides 24-hour, "911" emergency travel services to all standard retail plans, in case a traveler has to change a flight or a hotel room. Travel Guard has also added assistance with emergency cash transfers, pre-trip consultation services (travel advisories, passport requirements, inoculation information, etc.), and live messaging, which will relay any e-mail or phone message to family, friends or business associates.

All plans include medical expense coverage. Or, you can give one of our representatives a call at 800-826-5248 and they can tell you about our Medevac coverage.

Pre-existing Medical Condition Exclusions would likely be applicable to a condition of a traveler, traveling companion or family member who was first diagnosed, had a change in diagnosis or required a change in medication during the 60, 90, or 180 day look back period (depending on plan purchased) immediately preceding and including the effective date of coverage. Some plans include a Pre-existing Medical Condition Exclusion Waiver when purchasing the plan within a specified time frame immediately following initial trip payment.

Purchasing FAQs

Answers to questions on how to use the website for purchases.

Let’s make this easy! Before purchasing, please have the following information handy:

  • Personal information for all travelers who will be on the policy
  • Trip details: dates of travel, destination, initial deposit date, final payment date, and any travel companies you will be using
  • Total trip cost and how that cost is broken down per person in your itinerary.

Initial deposit date is the day on which you made your first payment toward the trip.

Don’t forget! Purchase within 15 days of your initial deposit date and early purchase benefits may apply.

Final payment date is the day on which you finished (or expect to finish) paying for your trip.

The final payment date must occur before the departure date. The initial deposit date and final payment date can be the same day, as long as that day occurs before the departure date.

Insurance can be purchased up to 24 hours prior to your trip departure date.

Claim payments under the Trip Cancellation & Trip Interruption benefits are based on the amount of Trip Cost insured per person.  For multiple travelers, you should enter the Trip Cost associated with each individual as it appears on the itinerary or trip invoice.
