Description

Part 1: Race, Power & Privilege

Join us for a dinner and dialogue on race, power, and privilege.

You’ll hear two short talks by Janice Iwama and Chelsea Roberts (COM ’14) featuring diverse perspectives on the role that race plays in the justice and educational systems. Plus, you’ll talk over dinner about your own experiences with race in America and around the world.

You’ll also have a chance to chat with student leaders and campus departments that are running programs focused on eliminating racial disparities in education and elsewhere.

The night will feature a keynote and Q&A with W. Kamau Bell, a socio-political comedian best known as host of the critically acclaimed FX series, Totally Biased. Bell now serves as the ACLU’s Ambassador of Racial Justice, and sits on the advisory board of Race Forward, a racial justice think tank, and Hollaback, a non-profit movement to end street harassment.

This free event will be the first in an annual series of conversations on identity, inclusion, and social action. It’s also a precursor to this spring's CAS FY103 class, a half-semester course which will explore these issues in greater depth.

This event is hosted by CAS Student Programs & Leadership, in association with participating student organizations and campus departments.
