If there's one makeup look (besides the cat eye) that's tough to master, it's the smoky eye. Done well, it turns you into a smoldering goddess. Done wrong, you'll end up with raccoon eyes.

But no need to shy away from this look—we've broken it down into four easy steps, thanks to makeup artist Neil Scibelli. Follow this easy tutorial and you can't go wrong:

1. Grab a navy eyeliner pencil, like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Sabbath ($20, sephora.com). Apply the liner directly to your upper lash line in small strokes, starting from the inner corner of the eye and working your way outward.

2. Take a pointed eyeliner brush, like the Sephora Collection PRO Flat Liner Brush #25 ($11, sephora.com), to go over the line with feathery, upward strokes.

3. Take a brown eyeliner for your bottom lashline, like Makeup Forever Aqua XL Eye Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner in M60 ($21, sephora.com). Apply the liner to your lower lashline, starting from the inner corner of the eye and working outward.

4. As you did with your upper lash line, use an eyeliner brush to smudge and soften the line. Finish up the look with a few coats of mascara, like Good Lash Mascara in Black ($26, shop.womenshealth.com).

Done and done! You've never gotten ready for a night out so quickly, right?
