Hiker dies after falling off mountain

EL PASO, Texas- One man has died after falling off a hiking trail Saturday.

A Combined Search and Rescue team was called out to McKelligon Canyon at 1:58 p.m. Firefighters said a hiker called 9-1-1 when a 21-year-old man fell off an arroyo.

Emergency responders reached the injured hiker at 3:38 p.m. and began to give him medical treatment. It took another hour and a half to get the man airlifted to a hospital due to the difficult terrain.

Firefighters said the man wandered off the trail before falling off the arroyo.

The man died from his injuries at the hospital.

His identity has not been released at this time.
