It’s a total turn-off when a guy you met online looks way different IRL, but new research has found there’s something even more off-putting: crappy grammar.

A Match.com survey of more than 5,000 single people in the U.S. discovered that grammar is the second-most important thing men and women judge a date on.

Them researchers discovered that personal hygiene was (understandly) the most important for 96 percent of women and 91 percent of men, followed by grammar, which 88 percent of women and 75 percent of men said was most important to them.

Even more surprising: People ranked grammar as more important than a person’s confidence and their teeth. Apparently wonky teeth are easier to fix (and live with) than bad speling and pour word usage.

And we especially don’t like to be confronted with it on our phones.

Both men and women listed grammar as their No.1 texting turn-offs, (even more so than using ALL CAPS—so you know it’s bad):

It doesn’t seem to improve with age, either: Sixty-somethings also listed incorrect grammer and mispellings as big turn-offs.

While the findings are interesting, they prove an important point: Bad grammer really is annoy.
