Q: Looking back at 2024, how would you sum the year up for you, your team, the business, and the industry?

A: As we reflect on 2024, it's clear that this year has been one of significant advancement and transformation for our team, business, and industry as a whole. Building on the momentum of previous years, we've witnessed continued growth, embraced new technologies, and reinforced our commitment to security and customer experience.

Continued growth

2024 marked a full year since the acquisition of PDRI and its move into the VUE business, further strengthening our capabilities and expertise. We're proud to report that our customer base has expanded considerably, and that multiple renewal of contracts underscores the enduring trust our clients place in us.

Focus on AI

Artificial Intelligence has been at the forefront of our initiatives this year. We launched our Generative AI Foundations certification program, responding to the growing demand for expertise in this field. We've also invested heavily in AI applications, particularly in item development and customer service, enhancing our efficiency and capabilities.

Enhanced security

In an era where data protection is paramount, we've doubled down on our commitment to security. Our efforts have centered on advancing the science of measurement while ensuring robust safeguards for our clients' information.

Expanding reach

Our global footprint continues to grow, with the opening of our Nairobi and Kuala Lumpur PPCs marking a significant milestone in our expansion into markets within Africa and the Far East. This move aligns with our goal to reach more aspiring candidates, supporting their academic and professional success.

Customer experience

Recognizing the importance of user satisfaction, we've made substantial investments in enhancing our customer experience. Our goal is to deliver a consumer-grade experience across all our platforms, ensuring intuitive, efficient, and enjoyable interactions for all users.

Q: What stands out as your proudest moments from 2024?

A: In 2024, we're proud to have played a pivotal role in empowering individuals across the globe to reach their full potential.

One of our standout accomplishments in 2024 was our ability to deliver a test every 1.5 seconds across more than 180 countries. This incredible feat not only showcases the scale of our operations but also highlights the growing demand for reliable certification and licensing services worldwide.

But the impact of our work extends far beyond numbers. Behind every test delivered is an individual striving to advance their educational or career journey. Whether it's a student aiming for higher education, a professional seeking to upskill, or an individual pursuing a license to practice in their chosen field, our services are instrumental in helping people achieve their goals and dreams.

From a personal perspective, I am proud that I got to experience that my son has (finally) surpassed me in our 10km runs. I have been a runner for over 20 years, and I am proud that I have inspired my son to adopt running as well. I am also exceptionally proud that my daughter published her first photography book entitled Forever Everton: A Goodison Farewell. Further, I am particularly happy that I have completed a Peloton class for an unbroken 591-day streak…and counting.

Q: As we head into 2025, what are the top opportunities and challenges you see for the industry at large?

A: The professional landscape is undergoing a seismic shift, driven largely by the rapid advancement of AI, and I have no doubt that this is set to accelerate in 2025. This technological revolution presents both unprecedented opportunities and formidable challenges for industries across the board.

The integration of AI into various sectors is reshaping job roles and skill requirements at an unprecedented pace. This rapid evolution presents a critical challenge: the widening skills gap. As traditional roles evolve or become obsolete, there's an urgent need for workforce upskilling and reskilling.

Lifelong learning is likely to become the new norm. This shift aligns with the fast-paced changes in technology and job requirements, allowing professionals to stay relevant and adaptable. As we navigate this AI-driven future, the focus must remain on empowering learners. The goal is to provide individuals with the tools and knowledge they need to progress in their careers and lives. This means not only offering technical training but also fostering critical thinking, creativity, and emotional intelligence – skills that complement rather than compete with AI.

Q: What are the top priorities for Pearson VUE in 2025?

As we look ahead, Pearson VUE is poised to build upon our reputation as a global leader in computer-based testing. Our roadmap for the future is focused on three key priorities: elevating customer experience, integrating leading AI technology, and expanding our global reach. These initiatives will not only strengthen our core services but also position us to meet the evolving needs of the assessment industry.

A: Pearson VUE is at the forefront of innovation, continuously enhancing our customer offerings while maintaining a steadfast commitment to security. Some of the areas where we have implemented innovative solutions to enhance our offerings includes:

Content development

One of the most significant advancements in our customer offerings is the integration of AI-powered content development. This technology-enabled enhancement streamlines the process of creating high-quality test questions, helping ensure that assessments remain relevant, challenging, and fair. By leveraging machine learning algorithms, we can analyze vast amounts of data to generate diverse and engaging test items, reducing the time and resources required for manual content creation.

Customer service

Another area where we are making strides is in customer service. We have embedded AI into our customer support systems, providing test-takers with quick and accurate responses to their queries. This innovative approach not only improves response times but also allows human customer service representatives to focus on more complex issues that require a personal touch.

Security

While embracing these technological advancements, we remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of security without compromising the integrity of our testing processes. One of the most promising security innovations being explored is the use of AI-powered fraud detection systems that can analyze test-taker behavior in real time, identifying potential instances of cheating or impersonation with unprecedented accuracy. By combining this technology with human oversight, we aim to create a testing environment that is both secure and user-friendly.

Q: What advice would you give those wanting to upskill or become certified in 2025?

A: Staying ahead of the curve is crucial for career growth and success. One of the most effective ways to boost your professional profile and open doors to new opportunities is through certification.

Data from our upcoming 2025 Value of IT Certification Candidate Survey reveals the significant impact of certification on career trajectories. To offer a preview, a remarkable 82% of respondents reported gaining confidence to explore and pursue new job opportunities after obtaining certification. This boost in confidence can be a game-changer in your professional life, empowering you to take on new challenges and responsibilities.

Moreover, the survey showed that 63% of respondents either received a job promotion or expected one at the time of the survey. This statistic underscores the direct correlation between certification and career advancement. Employers recognize the value of certified professionals and are more likely to entrust them with higher-level positions.

Financial rewards are another compelling reason to pursue certification. According to the survey, 32% of candidates received a salary increase after certification, with 41% expecting to receive one. Even more impressive, 30% of the raises received were above 20%. These figures demonstrate the substantial return on investment that certification can provide. More insights will be available when the report is launched in April.

Q: Are you planning to further upskill this year?

A: Continual learning is important for everyone, regardless of your age or what position you hold. We all need to understand that the rate at which technology is advancing means that we all have to continue with upskilling. For me, this year I will be advancing with the Generative AI Foundations certification we launched last year. I believe it is exceptionally important that as many people as possible are introduced to Generative AI and attain the basic skills.  Only through education and certification will we be equipped with the skills to advance in our careers and achieve our personal goals.
