BIXBY, Okla. (KTUL) -- A team of volunteers with the Humane Society of Tulsa has taken more than 70 animals from a Bixby home.
According to the Humane Society, residents at a home near 119th and Mingo were trying to run an animal rescue organization.
The society's president said the couple voluntarily relinquished the animals when they could no longer care for them.
The Humane Society removed 68 dogs and four cats that were crated inside the home.
Rescuers on the scene said the animals were in good condition.
The Humane Society's Animal Rescue Team assisted the Bixby Police Department with the situation.
The old "Your Pet Hospital" building is serving as a temporary emergency shelter. The animals will be evaluated, treated and made available for adoption.
The Humane Society of Tulsa says it is in urgent need of donations, which can be taken to the emergency shelter at 133rd and Memorial (13290 S. 80th E. Ave., Bixby, OK).
Supplies needed:
A washer, dryer and refrigerator are also needed, but cash donations are critical. Visit www.tulsapets.com and the emergency shelter location to donate.
