During a recent interview with Good Morning America about her latest film, Angelina Jolie revealed a crazy healthy snack her kids love: bugs.

Jolie, who adopted her oldest son Maddox from Cambodia in 2002, said that she involved her family in the making of the film, which explores the nation's recent history of genocide. In addition to having sons Maddox and Pax work on the actual film, the whole family was on set, where eating creepy crawlies like scorpions and spiders was apparently just part of your average day.

“They’re used to eating scorpions, especially Shiloh,” Jolie said. “Shiloh loves a tarantula, loves a bug. They can all eat a bag of crickets like a bag of chips, so they’re all used to it. But I’m learning to cook them better with a little more flair and seasoning” the actress added.

As gag-worthy as it might sound, the Jolie-Pitt kids are actually on to a healthy habit—bugs, and crickets in particular, are excellent sources of protein. In fact, a serving of crickets (about 3.5 ounces) packs 13 grams of protein and only 121 calories. To put that in perspective, that’s gram for gram about as much protein as you’d get by eating an equivalent amount of eggs.
