  1. We are moving my daughter into the Warren Towers on Wednesday. My daughter and I land at Logan at 1230 pm. My wife will already be in Boston. Can she pick up the key to our daughters room earlier in the day to drop stuff off in my daughters room before we get there?

    1. Your daughter must pick-up the key to her room and check into the residence herself. Unfortunately your wife cannot be issued the room key. Members of the Scarlett Squad will be available on Wednesday to assist.

    2. My son is moving into Myles Standish Hall on Sunday. Is there a parking garage or lot for this dorm, or is there other parking available for students moving in?

    1. Per the email from Billy Hajjar at BU Parking & Transportation Services, Warren Towers Garage will be limited to permit holders Monday, August 24 – Sunday, August 30. There are no move-in activities on Tuesday, August 25. If you have a permit you should be set.

  2. I’m moving into Warren Towers today. I also have to check in with FYSOP, beginning at noon. Will I be able to drop off my stuff before 4pm, check in with FYSOP, and then return to unpack my room? Or will I have to check in with FYSOP first and wait until 4pm to move in?

    1. Hi Nastassia,

You can go directly to Warren Towers, drop off your belongings and then check-in at FYSOP.

      Have fun!

  3. I am arriving form Mexico at 3 pm at Logan International AirPort on Wednesday 26th. Since it is very tight on schedule I wanted to know which was the first place I needed to check into. Do I need to go get my ID first? Or directly to my residence? And is it normal that my residence hasn’t been assigned yet?
    Thank you

    1. HI Michelle,

When you arrive on campus you can go directly to your room assignment. All new freshmen and transfer students have been assigned to on campus housing. You, and other students in your program, will be assigned by the end of the day today.

      Sincerely,

  4. I am doing some move-in to an apartment on st Mary’s today. Will I be able to find parking on buswell without having to worry about the residents’ only parking?

    1. Hi Sam, you’ll find signs directing you to check-in for your specific dorm as you get close. There will be a bunch of folks to help guide you. Welcome to campus!

  5. 3 questions. We are moving out child into Warren Towers Friday. Do we use Lot K? Do we need a parking pass or permit? Also, we are arriving Thursday night with a car full of dorm stuff – can we park the car in the Warren Towers lot overnight?

    1. Hi Rob,

If you arriving on Thursday night I recommend go directly to the Warren Towers garage (lot K) and that you then go to the Warren Towers residence office on the fourth floor and contact the Resident Assistant on duty. Your daughter/son should check-in and move all of the belongings into her/his room. I am not a big fan of leaving a car full of dorm stuff overnight. After unloading, the Parking Services staff will direct you to the overnight parking lot (lot F at 808 Commonwealth Avenue.

  6. I am moving into warren towers on saturday the 29th. If I have to go into the garage to unload everything, do I need a permit to do so? If the answer is yes, where can I get one?

  7. I’m a continuing student moving into an apartment on buswell on the 29th, and I’m registered for the day. is that gonna be a problem since technically the day is for freshmen? I can’t move in any other day.. I’d also like to know if I’m restricted by any time restraints or if I can be there by 9am

    1. Welcome back Mariah!

Arriving on August 29 is not a problem. The South Campus Area office will open for check-in at 9 a.m. and will close at 5:30 p.m.

      Be well!

  8. Can the parking garage or lot for Babcock St. (Langsam)accommodate a small Uhaul trailer? We are trying to decide whether to rent one for the trip since our car may not be large enough. Thx.

    1. Hi Kathy,

If your car isn’t large enough then you may be bringing too much stuff to campus. Seriously, we have parking available for oversized vehicles on Babcock St. The BU Police will direct you once you arrive.

      Enjoy the school year!

  9. I’ll be attending orientation for grad school (College of Communication) on Monday August 31st and will be using my car to get to campus. Will parking be a problem on that day? Which lot/garage would be my best bet? Also, what would I be looking at cost wise to park for roughly 5 hours? Thank you for all the great information!

  10. Hi! I’m from Singapore and will be moving in on the 26th. I don’t drive so I’ll probably be getting to Warren via an Uber. Not familiar with the area myself. Will there be signs/assistants around in the event the Uber driver doesn’t know how to get around to the Warren garage? Thank you!

    1. Hi Sanjeev! Yep, things will be well-marked in terms of drop off. Our Scarlet Squad will be on site to help you get checked-in and moved-in! Good luck!

  11. Some more information about what parents are supposed to do would be helpful. Are we expected to drop off, say our goodbyes and leave? Are parents supposed to attend the matriculation ceremony on Sunday? Anything else we should or should not be planning to do? Appreciate any insights. Thanks!

    1. Hi Michael, the flow changes a bit depending on where your student is living but overall the process is pretty similar. There will be places to park and unload, as seen on the map at the top of this post. In terms of Matriculation, parents are welcome to attend but are not required to.

      1. Thanks for responding. The map is helpful, thank you, as are the details about the physical process of moving in. But once our students are moved in, I’m still not clear about what parents are expected to do. I don’t want to be one of those parents who hangs on and hangs around too long! But if most parents attend the matriculation ceremony, for instance, I would want to stay. Is there any more information for parents available?

        1. The Dean of Students’ office has more information on Matriculation than we do here at BU Today. Give them a call at 617-353-4126 if you have any questions!

  12. We are moving our freshman son into Warren Towers on Saturday but arriving Friday afternoon – 2 questions – 1 can we unload his stuff on Friday and 2 will the Warren Tower garage accommodate a ful size pickup (hight)?

    1. Hi Steve:
You can certainly off-load in the Warren Tower garage. The garage can accommodate vehicles under 6’2″ in height. For overnight parking use the 808 Commonwealth parking garage.
      Regards,
      Nishmin Kashyap
      Director, BU Housing

  13. For move-in at Warren Towers, it says access is through the garage. But are we allowed to park there or do we have to pull up, unload, and move? If we can’t park there, where is the closest parking to get back to the dorm?

    1. Hi Suzette:

You should drive up to the third floor of Warren Towers garage and drop-off your belongings. The parking staff will direct you to the nearest garage.
      Regards,
      Nishmin Kashyap
      Director, BU Housing

  14. Hey, So I am in Brazil until Aug 31. before I left, I parked my car in a 24 hour spot right on Park Drive on the corner of Buswell st (on the side going away from fenway). Will it be okay?? I’m very worried that my car will get towed because of some sign that was place within the past week.. HELP!

    1. Here is what the BU Parking & Transportation office had to say: If you have a BU parking permit that is valid through August 31 and you are parked in a BU permitted space, then you should be fine. If not, then BU has no jurisdiction.

If you are really concerned about your vehicle and have a friend who can check on it in your absence, that might be a good idea.

  15. Hi,

My daughter is moving in on the 26th to Myles Standish Hall and we are confused about the orientation schedule. She is also signed up for common ground. Could someone maybe explain where we have to go first and at what time because it says that we should go to common ground check in first then move on to orientation and residence check in. Also where are the parents and siblings orientation and what time are they at?

    1. Please call the Howard Thurman Center at 617-353-4745. They oversee the Common Ground orientation. Their office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday

    2. Good morning!

As a parent, you should have received an email late Monday afternoon with information on parents orientation, with additional links for your students. Your student will also receive an email with Common Ground information this morning. If you haven’t received this email, please email me directly at katcorn@bu.edu and I will resend it.

      Thanks!
      Kat
      Dean of Students Office

    1. Hi Alexis,

You can unload in front of Danielsen Hall and the staff will then direct you to the nearest parking facility.

      Sincerely,

      Marc Robillard
      Executive Director of Auxiliary Services

    1. Hi Kelsey,

Welcome to BU. If you are moving into The Towers at 140 Bay State Road you can unload in the front of the building and pick-up your room key inside in the Franklin Lounge. The Scarlett Squad and BU Police will direct you to available parking.

      All the best,

      Marc Robillard
      Executive Director of Auxiliary Services

  16. Hello!
My daughter will be moving into 34 Buswell on the 30th and 31st. Is there nearby parking and most importantly, an elevator? She will be on the 4th floor.
    Thanks!

    1. Hi Kate,

The Police will direct you to available parking in the South Campus area. There is a small elevator in 34 Buswell St.

      Enjoy!

  17. Hi,

I am moving in on the 26th to Myles Standish Hall and my parents and I were wondering where the closest parking lot to the dorm is because I have looked online many times but they all say that myles does not have its own parking lot so where would the most convenient parking lot be? Also what time are we supposed to be at orientation on the 26th?

    1. Hi Tobin,

You can unload your car in front of Myles Standish Hall. The Scarlett Squad and the BU Police will then direct you to the nearest parking facility on campus. I recommend that you call the Orientation Office directly for the program schedule. The number is 617-353-3555.

      Have fun!

      Marc Robillard
      Executive Director of Auxiliary Services

  18. Hi my daughter is both supposed to start orientation and check into her dorm Wednesday. Which one should we focus on first? Also, I am going to “parent orientation” is this the same thing as student orientation??

    1. Hi!

Parents Orientation is different, and you should have received a reminder email with your schedule and a welcome letter Monday. (If you didn’t, check your spam folder. If it’s not there, email me at katcorn@bu.edu.)

Focus on moving in first. The Wednesday part of Orientation is great and fun, but optional. What I would recommend is to focus on getting everything in the room, but not necessarily put away. Then your daughter should go to Common Ground and you can do any shopping or setup you feel comfortable doing by yourself. Then when she’s done around 4:30pm, get back to work unpacking and such.

      Contact me with any questions!

      Thanks!
      Kat

  19. Okay for my daughter who is a 3rd year student to move in on Saturday, right? She said she registered her date, but according to this article continuing students move in on Sun. and Mon. Thanks in advance!

    1. If you are moving into The Towers at 140 Bay State Road you can unload in the front of the building and pick-up your room key inside in the Franklin Lounge. The Scarlett Squad and BU Police will direct you to available parking.

  20. Hi! I’m going to be flying in Friday morning for one day early move in to Warren Towers. I am taking an Uber over to school. Should I tell him to drop me off at the Warren Towers garage? Will there be any fees? Also will there be people to help me move stuff ( because my bags are huge)?

    1. You should drive up to the third floor of Warren Towers garage and drop-off your belongings. The parking staff will direct you to the nearest garage.

    1. Hi Alex,

The ally known as Braves Field Way will be open. There will be a short closure on Sunday in conjunction with the arrival of students for Matriculation on Sunday afternoon.

  21. Hello,

I was planning on moving in tomorrow(Wednesday), but I won’t arrive at West campus until 5:30pm-ish. I just checked on the website and it says that move-in is only allowed 9-5:30pm. Will I not be allowed to move in if I arrive at 5:30 or later?

    Thank You!

    1. Hi Carina,

The official hours for check-in on Wednesday are 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. If you arrive after 4 p.m. you will need to contact the resident assistant on duty (the security staff will help you with this).

      All the best,

      Marc Robillard
      Executive Director of Auxiliary Services

  22. I’ll be moving in to an apartment on Comm. Ave. on the 31st. Will it be alright to park in the Warren garage on that day? And if so, will a full-size pickup fit in one of those spaces? Thanks!

    1. Hi Patrick,

Welcome back! The Warren garage will be open on Monday August 31. If your truck is too big we will find a spot for you on Cummington Mall.

      Have a great year!

      Marc Robillard
      Executive Director of Auxiliary Services

  23. Once we have dropped off our son at his dorm at Warren Towers, are there any “free parking” passes for any lots at BU (as there were at orientation)? Also, how long should we expect the move-in process to take?

    1. Hi Eric,

After you have completed moving your son’s belongings into his room you will be directed to available longer term parking by the Parking Services staff. No passes are required. The length of the move-in process will depend upon when you arrive on campus. It will not be too long and we will treat you to lunch in the Warren Towers dining room.

      Sincerely,

      Marc Robillard
      Executive Director of Auxiliary Services

    1. Hi Eric,

The best place to park for Matriculation is 808 Commonwealth Avenue lot. It is just a short walk from there to the Agganis Arena.

      All the best,

      Marc Robillard
      Executive Director of Auxiliary Services

    1. Hi Lori,

Yes, for Rich Hall you will unload on Babcock St. There will be Scarlett Squad members around to help.

      Enjoy!

      Marc Robillard
      Executive Director of Auxiliary Services

  24. Will the Granby Street lot be open for faculty on Thursday 8/26? I don’t have a parking permit, will have to pay my way. If not Granby, where might I park? Thank you.

  25. My daughter is moving into Kilchand on Sunday. Where is the best place to park? And once she is unloaded, is there a lot we can move the car to and park for free so I can go in and help her set up?

    1. Hi Patrice, your best bet is to swing by Kilchand on Sunday. BUPD will direct you where to unload and help you find a place to park so you can go in and help her. Good luck with move-in!

    1. Hi Movarney, there will be an unloading area near Myles and then the BUPD will direct you to available parking, most likely on Bay State Road. Hope this helps; good luck with move-in!

  26. Arriving late on Thursday night and staying in a hotel until move in on Friday morning. Is it OK to park in Lot F overnight on Thursday night? Assuming that no one is around after 9 p.m., do I just pull right into the lot and leave the car? Will I need any kind of parking pass to put on the dashboard?

  27. My son is a ‘continuing student’ but must move in on Saturday 8/29 (40 Buswell). Anything special need to be done or can he just arrive between 9-5 and check-in with RA? Thanks.

    1. Hi Tina,

Your son is welcome to move-in on Saturday. He will check in at the South Campus Area office located at 518 Park Drive which is just around the corner from his residence. Check-in hours on Saturday are 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

      All the best,

      Marc Robillard
      Executive Director of Auxiliary Services

  28. Are the move in times only for the use of carts? I am a continuing student moving in on Sunday, would I be able to get my key before the continuing students move in time?

  29. We will be moving in our son on Saturday am. Sleeper Hall. When we return on Sunday for Matriculation will there be parking for families who have already moved their child? How early should one arrive? Thank you.

    1. Hi SJ,

Parking will be available at the 808 Commonwealth Avenue Lot on Sunday, August 30th for those parents attending Matriculation. The lot will open at 7am and the Matriculation ceremony begins at 2pm. Please feel free to park on campus anytime after 7am.

Good luck with the move in on Saturday.

      Best,

      Timothy Dunn
      Operations Manager
      Parking & Transportation Services

    1. Hi Amie, the 575 Commonwealth Avenue dormitory has a lot directly underneath it that parents may unload and park in. The parking office will have a staff member there on Saturday and Sunday to help with any issues that may arise.

  30. I’m going to be moving into South Campus on the 29th, Saturday. I know that move-in ends at 5:30, but my plane from California doesn’t land at Logan until around 4:40. I’m probably not going to be able to make it by 5:30. What should I do?

    1. If the South Campus office is closed, the telephone number for the resident assistant (RA) on duty will be posted at the door. Call the RA on duty who will happily assist you in obtaining your room key.

  31. I am moving into Warren Towers tomorrow. I understand that I need to park in the garage to unpack my things, but I don’t have a permit. Also I have never received an email saying that I need a permit. Do I need it? And if I do, where do I get one?

    1. Hi Dana and sorry for the late reply. You likely found out that you did not need a permit to park while moving in, however parking on campus during Any other period in University lots will require a permit. Please contact the Parking & Transportation Services Office by email at parking@bu.edu or by phone at 617-353-2160 in order to speak with a staff member who can assist you further.

Billy Hajjar – Director of Parking Parking & Transportation Services

  32. Hi Amy, my daughter is a sophomore who can move into 33 Agganis on Sunday afternoon.

You note Agganis Way and Buick Street are closed from 1 to 4 PM, how do we access the Agganis garage to unload and then exit if those streets are closed?

    Thank you
    Michele

    1. Hi Michele,

As of around 2pm, you are able to enter Buick Street and continue down the street behind the Agganis Arena. You may then enter either the C-2 lot outside of the Arena Garage or the C-1 lot behind 33 Harry Agganis Way.

Billy Hajjar – Director of Parking & Transportation Services
