10 Reasons October at BU Might Be The Best Month Yet

Sure, September is fun for its back to school novelty & November has Thanksgiving but the 10th month of the year may be our favorite one on campus. Here’s 10 reasons why:

1. Foliage

October is peak leaf-peeking season on Comm. Ave. Take a stroll on BU Beach for a good look at the beauty

2. Halloween!

October 21 is Italian Night at Warren Towers. We’re just guessing that means all you can eat pasta plus Italian pastries.

4. Parents Weekend

Now that you’ve had a month of freedom, it’s alright to admit you’re missing Mom & Dad. Families will be reuniting across campus Oct. 17-18.

5. Head of the Charles Regatta

7. A Long Weekend

8. Hockey!

While our women’s ice hockey technically started their season with an exhibition game on Sept. 26, the real action for men and women starts in earnest this October. The women play UCONN October 2 and the men kick off exhibition vs. Acadia October 3. Sounds like a hockey-filled weekend!

9. Flying Pumpkins

Each Halloween, in an effort to ensure gravity is indeed still working, BU Physics drops pumpkins off of the roof of the Metcalf Science Center. Some are frozen in liquid nitrogen, others filled with paint and some (like the 144-pound gourd pictured here) are just plain big.

10. We’re just a short train ride from the Halloween Capitol of the World: Salem
