DeMarcus Attempts to Speak Portuguese

The upcoming Olympics in Rio de Janeiro brings many challenges for Team USA: long days of travel, acclimating to new surroundings, adapting to FIBA rules and tough competition to name a few.

However, the members of the United States Basketball Team won’t be asked to learn the language… or so they thought.

Jerome Meyinsse, an American basketball player who plays professionally for Flamengo in the Nova Basquete Brasil, spent some time with Team USA, and taught them a few Portuguese sayings.

Meyinsse first taught Carmelo Anthony and Klay Thompson how to say their names in Portuguese then continued to teach Boogie and other members of Team USA how to say they are basketball players.

“Jogo basquete,” Boogie said to Meyinsse’s approval.

The video concludes with Meyinsse commenting on how tall DeMarcus is and asks him to answer with his height in Brazil’s native language.
