B/R: Cousins Best Center in NBA

In its annual NBA player rankings, Bleacher Report’s Adam Fromal used the NBA 200 metric to identify who was this season’s top big man.

The metric – which provides point totals for variables such as scoring, non-scoring offense, rebounding and more – helps quantify true overall value, which is broken down below:

  • Scoring (20)
  • Non-Scoring Offense: Facilitating (5) and Off-Ball Offense (10)
  • Defense: On-Ball (10), Off-Ball (15) and Rim Protection (15)
  • Rebounding (15)
  • Intangibles: Conduct (5) and Durability (5)

Using those values, players were graded on which position they played most and then valued on only their 2014-15 season – not potential.

According to the overall results, DeMarcus Cousins ranked No. 1.

He beat out Dwight Howard (5th), DeAndre Jordan (4th), Al Horford (3rd) and Marc Gasol (2nd) for the coveted distinction.

Check out how scoring broke down for the Kings All-Star:

  • Scoring: 19/20
  • Non-Scoring Offense: 11/15
  • Defense: 35/40
  • Rebounding: 14/15
  • Intangibles: 8/10
  • Total: 87/100

"He's one of the most dominant bigs the NBA has produced in years. Not only is he an improving defender who eats rebounds for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but he's a gifted passer and an unstoppable scoring threat," concluded Fromal.
