Every word nerd knows how a beloved book can automatically make any space more cozy and warm. Most of us would live at the library if we could, but you try to spend just one night there and suddenly people are throwing around words like “vagrant” and “public intoxication.”
Instead, bring the stacks to you with these ingenious, amazing and just plain pretty decorating projects that are absolutely perfect for any bibliophile.
-
Take a (gigantic) page out of your fave book
This is my absolute favorite, and I would do it immediately if I could decide what my favorite book was. The tutorial is easy to follow, and while this blogger did hers as part of her Halloween decor, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to make an all-seasons book page of your own.
-
Make a throwback faux card catalog
OK, so this one isn’t that great for beginners, but if you aren’t handy with power tools (yet), you can always bookmark this one and drool over it for later.
-
Craft a hidey-hole out of recycled books
If anyone tells you that you have too many books and that it’s impossible to store anything else, you can always just point to this and ask them to leave politely.
-
Remind yourself how far a story can take you
A book is the ultimate escape, right? Keep a reminder of how to get to your favorite mythical lands, and just make sure the signposts are pointing at books.
-
Oooh! A book lamp!
You know how when you spend all of your decorating budget on books, you don’t have any money left over for furniture so you just sort of stack up your books and stick a lamp on top and call it a nightstand? Well, this project is kind of like that, except the lamp actually works.
-
Drift off with this one-of-a-kind headboard
This is a seriously cool idea, and the tutorial breaks it down very nicely — just make sure the books are flipped to your favorite pages.
-
Literally fall asleep with a good book
You’re going to fall asleep with your face pressed up against a page-turner anyway, so it may as well be comfortable for you. These pillows make it happen.
-
Recycle a too-far-gone book into a planter
Lots of books get thrown out (thrown out!) or discarded or dumped at a thrift store. Instead of sending old, ugly and unreadable books to the landfill, give them a send-off with dignity by making them into a planter.
-
Make a book hook for all your things
Because that way, when you come inside after a long day of work or errands or whatever, you can take off your coat, hang it on the hook, and it will remind you to read later, which is the best kind of therapy ever.
-
Display a map from your favorite book land
Do you remember when you were first introduced to your favorite fantasy read, and there was a map on the inside cover, and every time the hero would adventure forth to new lands, you would stick your finger in the pages and flip back so that you could see how far Rivendell was from Hobbiton? Now you can hang that feeling on your wall.
-
Make the coolest accordion organizer ever
I am a tucker of items. I slip notes and pictures and pretty little flowers in between the pages because I am absolutely delighted to come across the items later (hmmm, maybe I should tuck a twenty sometime). This is a much better idea, and your stuff has a better chance of lasting between the pages of this book than some random tome.
-
Make extremely cute art from old books
Have a favorite old book that’s threatening to crumble in your hands? There’s no reason to let go of it like some heartless normie. Instead, rescue what’s salvageable and memorialize it forever.
