Hello everyone. I'm here today to help you set up your Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender and review some tips and help you get the most out of your device so let's get to it!
First, let's start with some basic requirements to make sure that you have everything that you need. In order to enjoy the benefits of your 4G LTE Network Extender, you must have an HD Voice capable device. Devices that use other types of technologies such as 3G or 1x devices will not be able to benefit from the 4G LTE Network Extender. Now that that's out of the way, let's go over what else is required to use your 4G LTE Network Extender.
Make sure that you have the following:
- Internet access - you're going to need to have access to high-speed internet as well as your router or modem. Most broadband services will work; however, home satellite broadband services are not supported.
- You're going to need to have a minimum download speed of 10 megabits per second as well as the minimum upload speed of 5 megabits per second.
However, it's highly recommended that you have 20 megabytes per second down and 10 megabits per second up.
- You're also going to need to have an open internet port on your router or modem because this is what the 4G LTE Network Extender will be plugged into.
- Lastly, you need to be in an area with adequate GPS signal. For the initial GPS fix during setup: four strong GPS satellite signals must be available. A strong steady GPS signal not only helps reduce set up time but is also required for continuous operation of the Network Extender as well as provides your location to the emergency responders if you call 911.
So now we're ready to set up our 4G LTE Network Extender. First, we need to figure out the best place to put it, since acquiring GPS signal is one the most important parts in getting our Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender to work. We need to place it as close to the window as possible.
Now, let's say you can't get it close to the window, we can always attach the GPS extension cable. We'll simply do it like this: First we remove the top cover revealing the GPS unit. To remove the GPS unit you simply just slide it straight out and now you can attach the extension cable. Plug it into the unit, plug it to the Network Extender, and there you have it. Now you can place the GPS unit much closer to the window. And that's it.
Now, let's say that you have to move the Network Extender for whatever reason, say you're moving locations, well everything just goes right back together just as easy. Just remove the extension cable, slide the GPS unit back on, put the top cover back on, and you're ready to go. Simple as that.
Moving on, our next step is to take out Ethernet cable and plug it into the yellow LAN port located on the back of our 4G LTE Network Extender. Once that's done, we could plug the other end of our Ethernet cable into the open LAN port on your wireless router. Then we can take the power cable and also plug it into the back. Then we simply just have to plug this into the power outlet on the wall and that's it. Now it's important that we do these steps in this order so that the internet is ready for when the device powers on. Now let's take a look at what happens next.
Alright, now that your 4G LTE Network Extender has been plugged in, your power status LED indicator will start off as solid blue. Then after about a minute the LED will start to blink, letting you know that the Network Extender has started its setup process.
Now for the initial setup this can take about 30 to 60 minutes as this is when the Network Extender is acquiring its GPS signal. Once the 4G LTE Network Extender has successfully started up, the LED will go back to a solid blue and the LCD display will show "In service."
Now, if the LED is still blinking blue after 60 minutes, this may indicate a GPS signal issue and we may have to relocate the device somewhere else in the home where there's a stronger GPS signal. We could also improve GPS signal by installing the extension cable that we talked about earlier.
Alright, now that we’re up and running you can dial #48 to check to see if you're connected to your 4G LTE Network Extender. If you are connected you're going to hear a message stating, "you are under 4G LTE Network Extender coverage." Also, depending on what kind of phone that you have you may also see a house-like icon at the top of your phone screen also indicating that you're connected to the Network Extender.
Congratulations! You've just set up your 4G LTE Network Extender and as long as you're within 50 feet of the Network Extender you can use it to make a call. At this point, if you wanted to you could stop the video here and enjoy your Network Extender, but I recommend you stick around because coming up you're going to learn how to tell if your device is connected to the Network Extender, what kind of information you can gather from the LCD display, as well as alarms, and how to access our new admin page, as well as what information you can gather from it.
Now let's take a look at the LCD display and go over some of the indicators that you're going to see. The GPS indicator, which is located in the top left of the LCD display shows whether or not you have a GPS signal and how many GPS satellites, the Network Extender is currently connected to.
Next up, the icon in the top-right of the LCD display shows how many devices are currently connected to the Network Extender.
And then last up is the LTE service status which is located in the center. As long as it shows 4G LTE, the Network Extender is in service and working correctly. If it is out of service this will change to a circle with a line through the middle and may display an error message which we can find the user manual.
You can also press the display button located to the right which is going to allow you to cycle through the different displays, showing you additional information such as the Network Extender MAC ID, and the device's IP address.
Now you're going to need this device IP address in order to access our new admin page, where you can view device status, view alarms, and change settings. Now you can access this admin page by using your computer, tablet, or phone by simply opening up a browser and entering in the device IP address into the address bar.
Now just make sure that the device you're trying to use to login to the admin site is on the same network as our 4G LTE Network Extender.
