Dressing up and going out in pajamas may feel like a recent fad, but as usual, Oscar de la Renta was way ahead of the curve.

In our June 1974 issue, the fashion designer and his then-wife, the late Françoise de Langlade, were photographed in breezy resort wear (the caption said Langlade, the editor in chief of French Vogue, was wearing "pale cocoa crepe de Chine pajamas") at their Casa de Campo beach house in the Dominican Republic. Back then, we described his designs as "modern with a twist of romance and a rich dollop of fantasy"—proving that trends may come and go, but the de la Renta's style is truly timeless.
