The estranged daughter of a wealthy Russian businessman close to President Putin has written to the Home Office to urge Britain not to grant her father an investment visa.

Olga Litvinenko, 34, a former opposition politician, accused her father, Vladimir, of making his fortune through his personal ties to Mr Putin, whom he has known since the early 1990s.

The government is looking to review the source of wealth of Russians in Britain on investment visas. Anyone who invests more than £2 million is eligible to move to Britain, but the visas must be reviewed every 40 months. Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea FC, is awaiting a decision on his visa.
